From Bach to the Amazon
Emily Burridge is a virtuoso cellist whose deft improvisational and composing skills create sublime music, fluidly crossing genres both classical and contemporary.
This is an unusual and distinctive solo concert of two halves - firstly unaccompanied cello works drawn from J.S. Bach's wondrous G major suite interwoven with a series of Emily's vibrant and alluring short pieces, her beautiful sometimes haunting cello multi-tracked using modern live sampling and looping technology. For the second half, Emily atmospherically and emotively soundtracks the dawn-to-dusk daily life of an Amazonian Xavante Indian tribe, drawing inspiration from lher experience of living in their midst and and integrating field recordings of traditional songs and their forest environment. An evening of ethereal, spellbinding music, as intimate as it is accomplished.
