The Red Red Shoes
Rugby School students present: The Red, Red Shoes by Charles Way.
A white room, a shattered wall and a doctor striving to help a young girl make sense of her traumatic experience.
Franvera, who lives in a country ‘so very near so very far away’ is given a pair of red dancing shoes. When her country collapses into war and ethnic cleansing the shoes become both her link with her old life and a symbol of the trauma she has endured.
Inspired by Hans Christian Anderson’s story The Red Shoes, this short and powerful production performed by a young cast, uses movement, music, visual imagery and text to explore the inner mind of a child displaced by war in Eastern Europe.
