The World Rugby Hall of Fame is closed to the public
The World Rugby Hall of Fame will not be reopening when the Art Gallery and Museum reopens.
The Council’s finances have been placed under a lot of pressure by the events of the last year, and the decision not to renew the agreement with World Rugby was taken principally on financial grounds. The game of rugby continues to be important to us, and we will be working towards celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of the game in 2023. A decision on what to do with the space will be taken by the Council in due course.
When William Webb Ellis, a pupil of Rugby School, caught the ball and ran with it, no-one could have predicted what would happen. Today, rugby is a global sport with more than 10 million players in 128 countries in membership of World Rugby. Visit the World Rugby Hall of Fame website to celebrate those that have inspired and developed the game from those humble origins to the character-building sport it is today.
