Matt Terry to turn on Rugby's Christmas Lights
Matt Terry, X Factor champion, will be turning on the Christmas lights in Rugby town centre on Sunday 18 November.
The annual light switch-on organised by Rugby First and Rugby Borough Council in partnership with Rugby FM takes place between 12 noon and 5pm. As well as watching Matt perform on stage visitors can also enjoy fairground rides, Santa’s Grotto, a Christmas market, children’s entertainment, a petting zoo and a spectacular firework display – some fantastic entertainment for all the family!
Matt Terry has been non-stop since his win back in 2016. He’s been recording music all over the world including Miami, LA, Scandinavia and Spain. He had a top 3 hit with his Ed Sheeran penned winner’s single “When Christmas Comes Around” and featured on Enrique Iglesias’ smash summer single “Subeme La Radio” with Sean Paul.
I always get the warmest of welcomes whenever I get to perform in the Midlands, so I’m very excited about meeting my fans in Rugby. There’s something very special about Christmas and I’m ready to kick off the festival season in style on November 18th.
As well as Matt the main stage will also have a great line up of music including Rugby Rock Choir, Christmas carols, Rugby Salvation Army Band, Kieron Taylour, Clifton-Upon-Dunsmore School Choir and Stupid Boots – all guaranteed to get you into the festive spirit!
Why not take to the sky on the Ferris Wheel and get a bird’s eye view of the town centre or take a spin on the dodgems and twister. Meet and greet some of your favourite cartoon characters and don’t forget there will also be a funfair in North Street car park on Saturday 17 November from 12 to 8pm as well as on the Sunday.
No Christmas light-switch-on would be complete without a visit to Santa’s Grotto so make sure you stop by Bank Street to meet Father Christmas – he’s sure to put a smile on the little one’s faces – Ho-Ho-Ho!
While you are in town take the opportunity to pick up your Christmas gifts. There’s a fantastic choice of national and independent stores offering a wide variety of interesting and unique gifts for friends and family. Make sure you also visit the Christmas market in Market Place.
After all this you are bound to be feeling hungry so take some time out to enjoy some great food and drink from the many cafes, pubs, and restaurants in the town centre. At the end of the day look to the skies and enjoy the spectacular firework display.
Aftab Gaffar, Rugby First Managing Director, said:
We are really excited to have Matt perform and switch on the lights in Rugby town centre this year. The annual event is always very well-attended and generates significant footfall and trade for town centre businesses.
This year we have increased the number of attractions and spread the event across other areas of the town centre which will mean a better overall experience for visitors but will also benefit businesses in those new areas.
